Protect Birthrights of the U.S Citizens

Currently, Donald Trump proposes to end right to citizenship for children of non-citizens and unauthorized immigrants born in the U.S. Following the CNN, President Trump saids that he can defy Constitution to complete his plan.
This act seems violate the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which says “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States…” In fact, he can use executive order to sign his plan, but many people disagree with this. I agree that the President of the United States has his strong power, but it should not go above the Constitution. In fact, it’s easy for him to change the Constitution by his executive power, but it is not that easy with all U.S citizens. The Speaker of the House Paul Ryan told a Kentucky radio station that Donald Trump cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order because it would involve "very lengthy" process to change constitutional amendment. In general, many congressman reject ending-birthright plan because it would be challenged throughout the nation.
In my perspective, I opposed this plan because children are our bright future. Immigrants are not enemies of the U.S, but they bring diversity of cultures, creations, and improvements to this country. People go through many obstacles to come here because they see the United States as the greatest country. Immigrants come here to advance the greatest opportunities, and they want to improve their children's future. Thus, the children will make the U.S great forever because they grow up in the greatest country.

Protect 14th Amendment - Birthright of Citizens


Currently, many serious issues are going on in the U.S, and ending birthright citizenship, proposed by President Trump, is one of them. Our classmate, Luis Hurtado, preferes to protect our birthrights in his Blog Stage 5. I am not sure if he is an immigrant like me, but I agree with Luis to protect birthright for legal immigrants.

Luis opens his blog by stating that President Trump will defy the U.S Constitution, and this is really matter as a whole. Luis argues that Mr.Trump is trying to control immigrants from other country, but immigration can benefit our nation in many ways. Many of those immigrants will become leaders or contribute to prosperity of America in the future. Luis believes that we should protect our constitution and welcome immigrants. He expresses his thoughts and opinions to support his arguments throughout the blog. Luis is able to summary this topic in a brief paragraph. His blog is great and straightforward. In my perspective, I discourage ending birthright citizenship in the U.S. Honestly, I am not trying to protect my benefit as a legal immigrant, but I am thinking widely as a whole. If President Trump used his executive order to pass this rule, so he would break the 14th amendment of the Constitution, which says “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States…” I agree that the President of the United States has his strong power, but it should not go above the Constitution. In fact, it’s easy for him to change the Constitution by his executive power, but it is not that easy with all U.S citizens. I also agree with Luis that children are our bright future, and we should not take away their advantages. Everyone wants to come here because this is a country of powerful, development, freedom and opportunity. Immigrants will also bring diversity of cultures, minds and improvements to this nation.

Eventually, Luis and I strongly protect birthright citizen in the U.S. The United State is a one of the greatest country in the world, so we should not afraid of immigration. Many people  go through many obstacles to come here because they believe that the greatest country will make the greatest people. Immigrants are not bad at all, but they are new potential of the United State. In addition, the U.S is known as the country of freedom and justice, so we should be worthy of that name.

Again, we should not build the U.S-Mexico wall.


In the Blog Stage Five of the US Government course, there is the blog that discusses about the same topic as mine, which is really attracts me. The blog, written by Auburn Lucas, proposes that we should not build a wall between the U.S and Mexico. Lucas and I have a similar opposition over this problem because a border wall will waste billions of dollars, and it also lead to some serious national issues in the U.S.
I totally agree with Lucas that building a wall will add much more to our debt, and we will “be in deep trouble regarding our economy, foreign affairs, and the environment” (Lucas). He states three effective reasons to support his argument. First reason is very straightforward, and it is the main concern of the U.S: who will pay for the Trump-Mexico border wall? Everyone is questioning that who will pay for a wall since “President Trump is strongly advocating for lower taxes and the money for the wall is not coming from our taxes (Lucas).” Additionally, the U.S-Mexico border can impact negatively to internal and foreign affairs l of the U.S. The border wall can devastate wildlife and nature between the U.S and Mexico because it prevents animals from accessing foods, water, and mates. The U.S-Mexico border wall will also hurt the South Texas farmers as well, and the rivers between two countries might be cut off. Throughout the last two reasons, Lucas shows the damages of building a border wall since it probably hurts both both people and natural of the United States.
Lucas is successfully persuaded the reader why we should not build the US-Mexico border wall. His article is very thoughtful and fairly detail. He uses brief evidences to support his opinion throughout his blog. However, I would like to see more facts and reactions of people in the U.S over this issue.
In conclusion, I agree with Lucas in the issue that the U.S should not build a border wall with Mexico. The main purpose of Trump’s wall is to stop illegal immigrant, but no one can guarantee that the wall will stop illegal immigrants. So, why should not we build a stricter border security instead of wasting billions of dollars on it. That does not make sense at all. Thus, Lucas and I discourage the U.S and Mexico border wall.

We should not build a US-Mexico border wall

During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump proposed to build a border wall between the U.S and Mexico. But, we don't really need it. Why? There are many reasons for saying no.

First, President Trump wants to build a wall to prevent a mass of undocumented immigrants and illegal drugs from Mexico. Yet, Mexico population growth has decrease dramatically. Following to the World Bank, the fertility rates in Mexico have declined from about 6.7 million in 1960 to about 2.1 million in 2016. The lower fertility the lower migration in the future. Following the Forbes magazine, it is also an important sign that the economy of Mexico has increased, and education levels have risen. We also have a high security system at the border. Basically, it is unlikely that the U.S is going to meet the era of mass illegal migration in the future since Mexico is improving. Even we build the wall, no one knows if the flow of drugs will be able to stop. Generally, the wall is unnecessary.

Second, the cost of the border wall is not properly stated, but it should cost about $18 billion or more, according to the CNN. The Trump administration is at risk of wasting large amount of money to spend on the border wall. President Trump insisted Mexico to pay for the wall during his campaign. However, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has emphatically rejected to do so. Then, the U.S taxpayers probably probably have to involve into this payment. Building the U.S-Mexico might hurt national's finance and citizen's money.

Third, The U.S Mexico border wall will have a negative impact on wildlife and farmers. Following the Fox News, the border wall will damage wildlife because "physical barriers prevent or discourage animals from accessing food, water, mates, and other critical resources by disrupting annual or seasonal migration and dispersal routes."Additionally, the U.S-Mexico border wall will make life harder on some South Texas farmers.

Eventually, I think that the U.S should not build a border wall. We can not predict what will happen in the future. We can not be sure that building a wall will be able to stop completely undocumented immigrant and illegal drugs. But, we are pretty sure that it will cost the billions of dollars, and it will hurt wildfire, farmers around the border. Importantly, an unnecessary US-Mexico border wall probably needs our money also.

Michelle Obama Tries to Support Girl's Education

On October 11, 2018, Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States from 2009-2017, published an article tilted Michelle Obama: Educate every girl. She is a passionate and personal case for education. She has always been inspiring the importance of education in our life, especially girls. In this article, she writes about her visitation at a high school in Unification Town, Moravia.

Moravia is a small country, and many students go to school with low conditions. The only light in the classroom is from the cloudy sky, and people barely see each other’s face even a short distance, Michelle Obama states. Many girls have to wake up early and walk for miles to attend school. Many girls try to go to school even they have to work to pay their school fees and to take care of their families. Furthermore, there are many girls try to get education "even though many are pressured to marry as adolescents, sidetracking their own goals for a man's," Mrs. Obama writes. She seems really sad and angry when she describes those bad things that the girls have to face. Finally, she calls for helps from people around the world to the Global Girls Alliance organization.

Since the author is Michelle Obama, the first African-American First Lady and an American lawyer graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School, this article should be very credible. At first, she discusses about how bad that girls in Moravia have to face to get their educations. The audience are Americans and people around the world. Michelle Obama carefully describes difficult situations in Moravia, and she also gives out evidences to support her statements as well. She tries to convince people to help young girls around the world. She claims that 98 million adolescent girls around the world are not in school, and she states the reasons for this are many like scarce resources, early pregnancies, threats of violence. She argues that we should help the girls through the Global Girls Alliance because educating girls isn't just good for the girls, it's good for all of us. Since I am an Asian, I know how bad people treat girls in some country. In general, young girls in the U.S get more opportunities than other countries. So, I agree with Michelle Obama that girls need more educations, and they need help from us. Generally, Mrs. Obama is very successful to point out obstacles that many girls are struggling with. That's reason why she needs our helps.

The Public's View of Donald Trump

On October 2, 2018, the New York Times published an article by The Editorial Board titled Donal Trump and the Self-Made Sham. The New York Times Editorial Board is a composed of journalists that mainly response to write The Times's editorials. The board is part of the Opinion Department. In the article, the Editorial Board argues that Mr. Trump has been amplified about his tale Self-Made Billionaire, and it "looks less like innocent exaggeration than malicious deception."

Following the story, young Mr.Trump received a modest $1 million loan from his father, and he built his assert into a multibillion-dollar global empire. However, the Editorial Board claims that this story was a sham because Mr. Trump had received financial from his father as a toddler. Beside of his $1 million loan, Donald Trump also involved tens of millions from his family's wealth. According the The Times, Donald Trump had received from his father close to $9 million before he had turned 30 years old. As growing up in the rich family, he also benefits from "a well-connected family — the connections, the access to credit, the built-in safety net," the author states. Generally, the author argues that "Mr. Trump is only self-made if you don’t count the massive financial rewards he received from his father’s." So, saying that Donald Trump built his business empire with $1 million loans is a fiction to burnish his glorious life, the News Editorial Board argues.

The author starts by quoting Mr.Trump's myth "I built what I built myself" to catch the audience's attention and slightly states the main idea of the article as well. The audience are Americans who care about their president's story. The Times Editorial Board's purpose is to persuade readers believe that Donald Trump is trying to bend the truth about his life. Since The New York Times is a national papers, and the article attracts many views easily. The author is very successful in leading and introduce the story to the reader. However, most arguments from the article are not going with specific facts and evidences. I see more assumptions than evidences throughout the article. For example, the author claims that little Donald received about $200,000 a year by age 3, but it is not supported by any specific evidence. Meanwhile, those arguments can be biased anyway. Sometimes, the author shows negative attitudes toward Donald Trump by using words and critical tone of voice. Eventually, I agree with the Editorial Board that Donald Trump could not built his business empire with only $1 million. Even the article lacks of strong evidences, but everything makes sense to me.

A Republican Stronghold Has Become Ground Zero in 2018

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, the CNN published an article tiled A Republican Stronghold Has Become Ground Zero in 2018 by Ronald Brownstein. He is a CNN senior political analyst. This article writes about the Democratic rally in Huntington Beach, California leaded by California gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom and its influences.

Currently, Democrats have found strong candidates against the two Republican incumbents seeking re-election in 2018. According to Thomas, the GOD consultant, those seats of Republican can only hold if Trump can grow his approval (rating) by 3 to 5 points between now and Election Day. This is a good article for anyone interested in the political elections in 2018 and government statuses.
